Injury Report: Luis Robert joins Eloy Jimenez as the latest Sox outfielder to miss significant time
The White Sox will be without another star outfielder for much of the 2021 season.
For the second time in as many months, White Sox general manager Rick Hahn held a press conference to announce that the club will be without a star outfielder for much of the season; this time, it is center fielder Luis Robert.
Robert, 23, will miss three to four months after an MRI on Monday afternoon revealed a complete tear of the right hip flexor, according to Hahn.
Hahn had the unfortunate task of holding a press conference late in March to announce that Eloy Jimenez would miss much — if not all — of the 2021 season with a ruptured left pectoral tendon suffered late in the Cactus League slate.
Robert was slashing .315/.359/.463 with a wRC+ of 136 and a team-best 1.1 fWAR through his first 103 plate appearances in 2021. He was coming off a rookie campaign in which he was named the Gold Glove Award winner for center fielders in the American League and runner-up in American League Rookie of the Year voting.
Rick Hahn said that the team would “explore” the trade market for a replacement for Robert but also cautioned the need to “figure out what the options are before deciding if the juice is worth the squeeze.”
