Sox Snippets: Giolito Unloads on Donaldson
But Gavin Sheets stole the show for the White Sox in a much-needed victory over the Twinkies on Tuesday night.

Josh Donaldson is a big old cry baby, but we already knew that. He showed us all that last September when he threw a hissy fit at home plate before being ejected in the sixth inning of a 4-3 loss to the White Sox after showing up home plate umpire, Dan Bellino.
On Tuesday night, Donaldson was at it again, commenting Lucas Giolito and “no more sticky stuff,” after the Twins’ third baseman took Giolito deep in another losing effort against the White Sox.
Giolito called Donaldson a “classless pest” after the game.
"I saw it after the fact. He’s a f***ing pest. That’s kind of a classless move. If you are going to talk s**t, talk s**t to my face. You can go cross home plate and do all that. Just come to me."
Giolito ended the discussion surrounding Donaldson by reminding everyone that Minnesota is in last place in the American League Central, while the White Sox are looking down on them from the top of the division.
The 33-44 Twins trail the White Sox by 12.5 games in the AL Central after another White Sox win tonight. The White Sox are 6-1 against the Twins this season.
Welcome to the Show, Gavin
Josh Donaldson’s mouth was the talk after the game, but Gavin Sheets did the talking with his bat in his major league debut on Tuesday night. The 2017 second-round draft pick out of Wake Forest went 2-for-4 with a single, double, two RBI, and a run scored.
Sheets figures to see some more playing time in the coming weeks with Jake Lamb hitting the IL in the most recent of the seemingly never-ending rash of White Sox injuries.
Luis Robert on the Mend
On Tuesday afternoon, the White Sox announced that Luis Robert had been cleared to ramp up his baseball activities as he recovers from a torn hip flexor suffered earlier this season.
The second-year centerfielder could see a rehab assignment in Charlotte as soon as the end of July. The same was said for outfielder Eloy Jiménez a few weeks ago, putting both of the club’s young outfield superstars on track for 2021 returns.
However, that shouldn’t change anything for the White Sox playing the unfamiliar role of buyers leading up to next month’s trade deadline. The void left by Nick Madrigal — who will not return this season — at second base needs to be filled.
Arizona Diamondbacks infielder Eduardo Escobar has been mentioned as a strong candidate for that spot as the Diamondbacks are going nowhere in the NL West and have already informed Escobar that he will be traded before the deadline.
As we saw again on Tuesday night, another reliever should also be on the list of targets for Rick Hahn over the next month.
